Theatre in Romania
Romania boasts a wide range of theatre. Every major city is home to a regional theatre and opera house. As well, most cities have a variety of other venues some with specialized and/or traditional styles. It is not uncommon to find puppet, children and religious theatres.
Most theatres in Romania work in repertory style often showing several different shows in a week. In addition, there is a wide network of theatre festivals throughout the country during the spring and summer. The largest festival is the Sibiu International Theatre Festival that hosts companies from around the world. The festival intertwines a range of theatrical forum with live music and guest lecturers.
As well, there are many amateur companies throughout the country. Mostly composed of high school student, they participate in several festivals and competitions year round. Surprisingly many take place in English. They gather from all over the country a few times a year to perform and compete at elaborate festivals.
